Yesterday India lost its chance to make it further in the Davis Cup in the men’s tournament, when Leander Paes and Saketh Myneni of India lost to the Spain’s dynamic duo Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez. While everyone was so excited about Nadal playing in Delhi against Paes, we all somewhere in the back of our mind, forgot the fact that India might lose the chance to continue further.
While a day earlier India tied with Spain, when Ramkumar Ramanathan won against Feliciano Lopez but unfortunately during the second single Saketh Myneni lost to David Ferrer. While before the match Nadal Stated that “He might have missed the singles yesterday due to his injury, but now this is their chance to make a comeback in Davis Cup after being two years away from World Group. Following his wrist injury Nadal was very upset, when he had to sit on the sidelines and watch his country lose.
Indian duo which combined for the first time ever in this match, lost 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. Even after winning the first set India kept losing to Spaniards afterwards. Sharing the court with an Olympic gold medal winning Spanish team and a doubles legend in Leander Paes, Myneni was trying hard to prove he belonged there.
After the first set what changed between the two teams was their mindset, where the Spaniard pair started using their long friendship and bonding Indians lacked that bond by many years. When they started using their brains instead of brawl that’s when the India started to panic.
Paes kind of being a lone hero kept India alive till the very last set single handedly, as all Myneni trying to do was match their standards. He played exceptionally no doubt but he lacked the experience that was needed to beat Spain. But they fought really hard and put on
