The first ESPYs was started in 1993.
The ESPY Award winners is being chosen through voting of the fans. Since 2004, sportswriters,broadcasters, sports executives, and sportspersons, collectively experts; or ESPN personalities also give their vote. The award winners have been selected thereafter exclusively through online fan balloting conducted from among candidates which are being selected by the ESPY Selected Nominating Committee.
