Amritsar: As per news Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited the Golden temple at Amritsar, which is spread over 15 acres, on Saturday at night. However, he also served “langar” to the devotees at the temple in Punjab. No Prime Minister had ever served the community kitchen. Hence, PM Narendra Modi have become the first PM who did it.
Today the Chief Information Officer, Gurbachan Singh gave a statement that Modi is the first ever Prime Minister who served langar to the devotees at Golden Temple. He said that many Prime Ministers has visited the temple, they pay obeisance and do prayers but none of them had ever taken participation in the practice of serve langar.
PM Narendra Modi was accompanied by the President of Afganistan, Ashraf Ghani. It was the sixth Heart Of Asia-Istanbul conference on Afganistan. It was Modi’s first visit to the shrine.
In the community kitchen of Golden Temple is the largest free kitchen with two langar halls with the combined capacity of 5000 people. According to an estimate, 1,00,000 people are served at the temple. People sit in a raw in langar hall and volunteers serve the traditional meals. But on Saturday night devotees setting in langar hall got surprised when they saw Prime Minister is serving a meal to them.
The Officials said that the Prime Minister spent approximately 40 minutes in a Golden Temple. Prime Minister Modi has provided a volunteer force when he was serving the meal at the shrine while security officials in civil dress were also with the high-security for VIP visitors. The volunteer force was provided by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
Gurbachan Singh also recalled the name of some other Prime Minister who had a visit to Golden Temple, including Iron Lady Indira Gandhi, V.P. Singh, Chandra Shekhar, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, H.D. Deve Gowda, Inder Kumar Gujral and Manmohan Singh. In addition, Gurbachan Singh said that Manmohan Singh visited the Golden Temple many times.
