Virat Kohli, an upcoming ‘Cricket God in the making‘, has once again proved that he is the ultimate successor of Sachin Tendulkar, as the young man scored a dazzling 82 off 51 balls which helped India defeat Australia in the crucial match at PCA on March 27, 2016.
India, chasing a total of 161 set by the Aussies, finished the game in 19.1 overs with six wickets in hand.
Earlier, Steven Smith won the toss for Aussies and elected to bat first. Captain’s decision was justified by the openers, as Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch gave them a flying start.
But the middle order failed to carry on the momentum, and finally, Australia managed to make 160 runs; thanks to the two ball 10 runs from wicket keeper Peter Neville. See the complete scorecard here.
For India, Ashish Nehra was the pick among the lots in bowling. The veteran took one wicket by just conceding 20 runs in his four overs. Ravichandran Ashwin was quite expensive as he gave away 31 runs in his two overs.
As usual, Indian openers disappointed this time as well, as Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan got dismissed in quick time. Suresh Raina continued his bad form and got out when he reached ten runs. Watch complete highlights video here.
Later, Virat Kohli joined hands with Yuvraj Singh and steadied the Indian ship. But, things were unassailable for India till the 19th over.
It was Virat Kohli’s daring performance in the 17th and 18th over which helped India win the match. The young man hit 19 runs in the 17th over, and with four boundaries, he managed 16 in the 18th. Dhoni hit the winning runs for India.
During the presentation ceremony, Virat Kohli told that this innings will remain special in his mind. Kohli added that he will continue performing for his nation in the upcoming matches as well.
