An amazing and very relieving news has come regarding, The ICAI which stands for ‘The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India’.
The (ICAI) is the national professional accounting body of India. The institute was first established on 1 July 1949 as a body corporate under the Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 which is enacted by the Parliament (acting as the provisional Parliament of India) to regulate the profession of Chartered Accountancy in India. ICAI is the second largest professional Accounting & Finance body in the world in terms of membership, after American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. ICAI is the only licensing cum regulating body of the financial audit and accountancy profession in India.
The regulating authority and the members of the Institute are known as ‘Chartered Accountants’. The Chartered Accountants are subject to a published Code of Ethics and professional standards, violation of which is subject to disciplinary action.
Only a member of ICAI can be appointed as statutory auditor of an Indian company under the Companies Act, 2013. The management of the Institute is being tackled with its Council with the president acting as its Chief Executive Authority. A person can become a member of ICAI by taking the prescribed examinations while going under the required three years of practical training in this institute.
The membership course is well known for its rigorous standards. Any member wanting to engage in public practice has to first apply for and obtain a Certificate of Practice from the Council of ICAI. Only members which are holding a Certificate of Practice may act as auditors or certify documents required by various tax and financial regulatory authorities in India.
