Lenovo’s official social media channels are buzzing with reports regarding the launch of Lenovo Z1. The scheduled date for the launch is 10th of May.
Apparently, Lenovo has stated that this is the world’s first crowdsourced product launch as well. The real name of the phone is believed to be ZUK1 but Lenovo has named it Z1, especially for the Indian markets.
The phone is made up of quality materials and the photos show that it has an elegant shape. For obvious reasons, the highlight of the phone is the Cyanogen OS. This software is known for the kind of customizations it brings along. It is feature-packed and Lenovo’s latest offering is supposed to run on Cyanogen OS 12.1 which uses Android 5.1 Lollipop as its base.
Even though the phone’s official name is Lenovo Z1, the Chinese company has decided to stick to the moniker (ZUK) by marketing the phone as ‘Powered by ZUK’.
Coming back to using Cyanogen OS in the Z1, Lenovo recently reported that Micromax (MICRO) will not be the only company to use Cyanogen OS as stock android.
This helps us in recalling the legal tussle that ensued between Cyanogen, Micromax, and OnePlus. As Cyanogen Inc. passed over its exclusive rights to Micromax, this created difficulty for OnePlus’s flagship OnePlus One, as it was already selling with Cyanogen OS.
Micromax fought a legal battle with OnePlus which compelled the Chinese smartphone maker to design its own Oxygen OS for its handsets to sell in India. Later, as the issue was resolved in court, OnePlus One was the only smartphone permitted to use Cyanogen OS and receive its updates.
