Anniversary Update is probably the last update for Windows 10 for this year, but there are two major updates that users should look out eagerly for in the upcoming year, 2017. Microsoft has only recently started rolling out the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which can be downloaded by users through a few methods.
The update adds several new features and makes significant improvements to Windows 10, including security enhancements, better versions of digital voice assistant Cortana and the Microsoft Edge browser and more promoted apps. Microsoft’s Nathan Mercer, who runs an information technology blog, recently wrote that based on the feedback, from organizations that moved to Windows 10, Anniversary Update for the Windows 10 will be the last update for the operating system. He also wrote that we should expect two more feature updates next year.
Mercer did not provide any details regarding the two upcoming updates, which is understandable, as Windows 10 Anniversary Update just rolled out, and latest feature from Anniversary Updates are still a buzz in media, so he probably didn’t want to jinx it. However, rumors claim that the next feature update for Windows 10, which bears the code name Redstone 2 after the Redstone 1 code name of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, will be released early next year before spring. New devices, Surface Book and Surface Pro from Microsoft are expected to have major hardware updates, with internal builds for the next major Windows 10 update already out for testing.
Redstone 2 is also expected to be more significant compared to the next update code-named Redstone 3, which is rumored to be coming in the fall. At one point Microsoft was planning to release the Redstone 2 update within the year. However, company officials earlier in the year decided to push back Redstone 2 to early 2017.
Moving forward, it seems that Microsoft is settling with two major updates for Windows 10 every year, after releasing only one this year.
Home users will have to simply wait for the Anniversary Update, if they have activated the OS’s feature to install updates automatically. But in case you’re impatient, all you have to do is, go to the Windows Update option under the Updates & Security section of your computer’s settings menu. Though for the next update you will have to wait till 2017, as there is no way right now to get your hands on the testing version. This is it for now, stay tuned for further updates, and do grace us with your feedback.
