We for one were stumped when Aprilia announced the pricing of its SR 150 scooter at Rs 65,000 (Ex-showroom, Pune; Introductory prices). For a 150cc scooter with an edgy style and great performance, Piaggio has definitely nailed the pricing. What is even better is the fact that Aprilia has commenced production and will have the first scooter roll out from the Piaggio plant at Baramati, Maharashtra on 10th August, 2016. The Piaggio plant is the same which also manufactures the Vespa range of scooters.
The Aprilia SR 150 will be available for purchase across the country at Vespa dealerships while Piaggio sets up its Motoplex dealerships in major cities in India. The Aprilia company has showcased the SR 150 scooter for the first time at Auto Expo in Delhi this year. Piaggio Aprilia SR 150 will get a break styled front apron which will come with a twin headlamp, handlebar which is mounted with indicators, instrument cluster with a twin pod analogue meter, odometer, and a fuel gauge.
The scooter will employ telescopic front forks and mono shock unit at the rear. Aprilia SR 150 is powered by a 154.4cc 3-valve, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine which generates 11.39bhp of power and 11.5Nm of torque mated to a CVT unit. It will run on 14-inch alloy wheels wrapped around 120/70 spec wheels. The vehicle supports with the drum brakes of 140mm at the rear and by the 220 mm disc brakes at the front. The seat of this crossover looks comfortable and hides a decent storage unit beneath it, wherein you can store groceries or sundry items. The footrest has adequate legroom preventing driver’s knees from scraping against the front end of the vehicle.
The all black engine, exhaust pipe and a high positioned tail light complete the side and rear profile of this two-wheeler. After Honda, Hero and Suzuki, it’s time for Piaggio to make its mark in the scooter market. So all you scooter aficionados out there get your chequebooks ready, because the Aprilia SR 150 is here! Almost! This it for now, stay tuned for further updates.
