Quick preview:

For now, the visitors must be reeling under pressure to win the ODI series with their qualifications for the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 at risk. If they have to qualify, they will need to beat the Sri Lankan side with a commendable margin.

Pakistan has been in good form in the 3rd ODI, by ticking all boxes on the field to give a good run to the hosts. It was surprising that Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews blamed the pitch for the loss.

The hosts were certainly not at par with their best, with the bowlers missing out on many occasions on what is considered as a good wicket.

For Mathews, the concern will be Lasith Malinga, who hasn’t performed as expected, while similar streaks are happening with others, including likes of Tillakaratne Dilshan and Thisara Perera.

For the hosts, they need to put up a good show this time, with special attention to the bowlers and middle-order, which has been able to bear the wrath of Pakistani bowlers.

Before 4th ODI against Pakistan, Mathews told Espn Cricinfo and said that one cannot have all eleven new players, and therefore experienced team players need to take show the way. He focused on saying how a correct combination of “youth and experience” is needed.

For Pakistan, it’s a big chance to get their berth for ICC Champions Trophy 2017. Mohammad Hafeez will have to perform, while the issues in middle order have to be resolved.
