With India’s win over Argentina yesterday by 2-1 in Men’s Hockey, fifth day of Rio Olympics brings India lots of reason to rejoice, with more events lined up for today. Highlight of the day will be round 1 of Tennis Mixed Doubles featuring Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna who will face S. Stosur and J. Peers of Australia, this match will start at midnight, after this R. Nadal and G. Muguruza of Spain will also be playing L. Hradecka and R. Stepanek of Czech Republic at around 2:30 AM IST.
Another fixture that India has today is the Group B match in Women’s Hockey against Australia, chances of India in Women’s Hockey looks to be diminishing day by day, as after a humiliating loss against Great Britain by 0-3 all odds are now against Indian team. Although, first fixture of India, today will be in Men’s 50 m Pistol Shooting, where Jitu Rai and Prakash Nanjappa will try to qualify to put up a fight in the final.
After shooting, Bombayla Devi Laishram will take on Laurence Baldauff of Austria in Women’s Individual Archery, at around 6:10 PM IST and Deepika kumari will also be facing Kristine Esebua of Georgia in the same event at 1:20 AM IST, both these fixtures will be held as round of 64, in order to decide the next 32 that goes through. Later in the day, at 7:20 PM IST in Men’s 90 kg Judo we will see Avtar Singh fighting Popole Misenga, who is a Refugee Olympic Athlete. These two will face each other in round of 32. Right up after this, will be Men’s Single Sculls Rowing Semi-final, where in the third lane will be Dattu Baban Bhokanal. Whether he will make it to the final or not, is what we will have to wait and watch. He will be facing the likes of Dongyong Kin of South Korea and Mohammed Al-Khafaji of Iraq among others.
Last fixture of the day will be in Men’s Light Welter 64 kg Boxing, where in round of 32 at aroung 3:00 AM IST famous Indian boxer Manoj Kumar will face Evaldas Petrauskas of Lithuania.
