The next-gen version of the flagship Galaxy S7 smartphone from Samsung, which is also available in a curved screen model, that is, the Galaxy S7 edge will possibly ditch the flat screen option in favor of the curved variant. That’s right, if this is to be believed, the Galaxy S8 will only have one variant and not two like its predecessors. Samsung is apparently considering sticking to the dual-edge screen for its Galaxy S smartphone lineup.
The news come straight from its mobile chief Dong-jin Koh who spilled the beans at a media interview in New York. “Samsung has considered that it would make the edge display as the identity of the Galaxy S smartphone lineup if the company can provide consumers differentiated user experience through software and user-friendly functions (for the curved screen),” revealed Dong-jin Koh. While the Samsung mobile chief’s statement does not necessarily imply that it will indeed take the step and discontinue the regular model, the idea that the company is considering the option increases the possibility, especially in light of recent developments.
Samsung is now completely capable of manufacturing sufficient curved display panels without encountering any major hiccups. The company is also looking to distinguish itself from competitors, so this move may give it a distinct identity. After all, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note 7 in only the dual-edge model and not the regular one, this as well is an indication that the company is looking to test the waters. May be Samsung is probably observing the consumer response and if the buyers do not complain about unavailability of the flat screen version, then it’s a green signal.
Moreover, the Galaxy S7 edge outsold the flat-screen Galaxy S7, a statistic that favors the elimination of the latter variant. Galaxy S7 and S6, both were launched in the curved screen Edge variant. Nevertheless, whether or not the OEM will indeed change things around for its Galaxy S lineup with the arrival of its Galaxy S8 smartphone remains to be seen. Well, we personally loved the curved display, and all the things it can do better than the straight one. This is it for now, stay tuned for further updates.
