Emraan Hashmi’s upcoming Hindi film Azhar based on the life of former Indian cricket captain Mohammed Azharuddin may fall in legal traps before its release.
The Cricket Board of India had banned the disgraced player for life after he was named in match-fixing.
Sangeeta Bijlani, Azhar’s former wife, is pretty much upset about the content of this flick. The Bollywood diva fears that she will be shown in bad light.
Sangeeta has not been in touch with the former skipper since 2010. After hearing about the cinema, the actress called up Azhar and voiced her concerns.
She also expressed her wish to watch the movie, while Azhar informed her that even he too needs to watch it.
Both have now reportedly asked the makers to conduct a special screening. Some close friends to Sangeeta claim that the actress is planning to sue the makers if her character is being portrayed as a home-breaker.
According to some other reports, former cricketer Manoj Prabhakar is also aiming to file a legal suit against the filmmakers if he is shown as a victim of match fixing. Manoj was the principal culprit in the match-fixing scandal during that time.
Other players like Kapil Dev, Navjot Sidhu and Ravi Shastri too have asked the producers to organize a private show to know how their characters are portrayed.
The trailer and songs of the movie were released recently, and it hints that the film touches the personal history of the player too. This has created a wave of suspicion in the minds of Bijlani, and it has compelled her to request for a special show.
Azhar produced by Sony Pictures, and Ektaa Kapoor stars Emraan Hashmi as Azharuddin and Nargis Fakhri as Bijlani.
The new film will grace the big screens on May 13, 2016.
The couple got married in 1996. The former cricketer divorced his wife Naureen to marry the ravishing Bijlani, and this move fetched negative criticisms during that time. Later, the right-handed batsman broke up with the model too in 2010.
Azhar is now a politician, an elected MP from Hyderabad.
