Tamil actress Manorama dies in Chennai; Funeral on Sunday

Veteran South Indian Tamil actress and singer Manorama breathed her last due to multiple organ failure on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2015.

Manorama is survived by a son, actor Boopathy.

She was rushed to the Apollo Hospital on Saturday night after she had dinner and complained of breathlessness. Reportedly she did not respond to the treatment and was declared dead at around 11:00 p.m.

Manorama funeral will be held in Chennai on Sunday.

Soon after the news spread, many celebrities took to Twitter to offer their condolences. Popular South Indian actress Khushbu who acted with Manorama in many memorable Tamil movies tweeted.

She is best known for her acting along with Tamil movie legends like M.G.R. Sivaji Ganesan, Nagesh, Cho, Thengai Srinivasan and Jayalalithaa.

Gopishantha was known by her screen name Manorama and was lovingly called as Aachi appeared in more than 1,200 films plus 1,000 onstage performances. She also acted in a leading role in some Television series.

Manorama was awarded with a Padma Shri and also won many awards including the National Award for Best Supporting Actress for Tamil movie “Pudhiya Padhai”.
